Jyotisha — Vedic Astrology of India
India's "science of light": sidereal astrology that still guides weddings, names and new ventures.
Jyotisha, the Vedic astrology of India, reads the sky against the actual positions of the constellations, dividing the moon's path into 27 lunar mansions called nakshatras. A birth chart, or kundali, is cast to the minute and consulted for life's major decisions.
In much of India it is still customary to match the kundalis of a bride and groom before marriage, and to choose auspicious dates — muhurta — for everything from housewarmings to product launches.
