Tojeong Bigyeol — Korea's New Year Oracle
The beloved almanac Koreans open every New Year: a verse of fortune drawn from your birth date.
Attributed to the 16th-century scholar Yi Ji-ham, known as Tojeong, the Tojeong Bigyeol turns your birth year, month and day into a set of numbers that select short poetic verses — one for the year, and one for each month ahead.
For generations, reading one's Tojeong Bigyeol in the first days of the lunar new year has been as much a part of Korean tradition as rice-cake soup. Even today, millions consult it every January to see what the year whispers.
