Palmistry began in ancient India and traveled through China, Persia and Greece to become one of the most universal forms of divination. The three major creases — heart, head and life lines — are read alongside mounts, finger shapes and the hand's overall character.

A reading traditionally compares both hands: one showing what you were born with, the other what you are making of it — a reminder, palm readers like to say, that the map is not the territory.
