Ifá — The Yoruba Oracle of 256 Paths
A UNESCO-recognised oracle of West Africa, spoken through palm nuts and sacred verse.
In Ifá divination, a babaláwo — "father of secrets" — casts sixteen palm nuts or an opele chain to reveal one of 256 odù, each a chapter of proverbs, stories and remedies memorised over years of training.
Recognised by UNESCO as a masterpiece of humanity's heritage, Ifá is philosophy, poetry and counsel in one. The oracle does not command; it reminds the asker of a story whose ending they must choose.
